Are you interested in sustainable and responsible investing? Are you looking for an opportunity to apply your research, policy, strategy, management, data analysis and/or Marketing skills to support a growing network of stakeholders in the African sustainable and responsible investing field?

Make an impact with your skills in 2012 - advance the mission of and work where your efforts make a difference, and gain unparalleled exposure to the world of investment in Africa today. Being an intern means you will be at the epicenter of a new and dynamic organization, intersecting with investors, stock exchanges, development agencies, investment promotion agencies and other stakeholders, leading up to our annual ESG Masterclass and Networking in Cape Town 5 September 2012 adjacent the 3rd Annual African Cup of Investment Management.


The Africa Sustainable Investment Forum ( ) is a not-for-profit network of investment practitioners promoting sustainable development in Africa by attracting sustainable investment from public, private and philanthropy sectors across asset classes, countries and stakeholders.  is a network, knowledgebase and advocate for sustainable investment in Africa.  joins the community of global Social Investment Forums including the USSIF, ASRIA, EuroSIF, UKSIF.



  • Update and/or develop marketing materials (e.g. pitchbook for funding requests, background 2-pager, presentations, case stories etc.)
  • Participate in the organization of  launch events and roadshow
  • Collate the Brand Book and Event Pack
  • Support the development of the  presence online – through:
  • o   the management of the  website
  • o   the management of its social media tools (e.g. Facebook, LinkedIn)
  • o   the monitoring of the  press coverage
  • Participate in the development of the  blog as a writer
  • Scope the TEDxAfricaSIF>org opportunity
  • Develop manual for subsequent interns


  • Perform investor interviews and data collection (i.e. primary and secondary research), data analysis, and reporting activities in the context of the inaugural Marketplace Trends Report 2012
  • Participate in the development of the blog as a writer
  • Participate in the development of additional ad-hoc Marketing materials (e.g. pitchbook for funding requests, case stories on sustainable investment in Africa etc.)
  • Develop manual for subsequent interns


  • Develop the knowledgebase with the latest thinking on sustainable investment in Africa (i.e. regulations, trends in the industry etc.), including impact investing
  • Expand the current online library and calendar with reports, articles, and events on Africa, sustainable investment, relationship among emerging markets etc.
  • Participate in the development of the AfricaSIF blog as a writer
  • Participate in the development of additional ad-hoc Marketing materials (e.g. pitchbook for funding requests, case stories on sustainable investment in Africa etc.)
  • Develop manual for subsequent interns
  • Prepare research grant proposals for policy research.


  • Participate in the development of the 2012-2013 budget
  • Refine the membership-fee model
  • Generate funding ideas from sources other than membership dues
  • Recommend pathways for 2015 strategic roadmap
  • Participate in the development of the blog as a writer
  • Participate in the development of additional ad-hoc Marketing materials (e.g. pitchbook for funding requests etc.)
  • Develop manual for subsequent interns


  • MBA candidate or related graduate degree
  • Interest in sustainable/responsible investment and Africa
  • Ability to work in a start-up, multicultural, teamwork environment
  • Prior experience with developing marketing materials and online marketing strategies
  • Prior experience with Yola, SurveyMonkey, DisQus, Facebook, LinkedIn, Zoho, Delicious a plus
  • Strong writing, project management, and communications skills
  • Taking initiative, reliable, detailed-oriented, well-organized

Other Requirements

  • English-speaking. Bonus if conversant in Portuguese, Spanish OR French.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite (DOC, XLS, PPT)
  • Experience with Google suite (Gmail, Google Docs, Gvoice)
  • Skype and Gvoice capability

Offer & Terms

  • Starting Date:  1 June 2012 *unless agreed differently
  • Ending Date:  31 July 2012 *unless agreed differently
  • Period: Intern Pod runs for 8-10 weeks in mid-2012. By agreement with the team, we can accept research project ideas and alternative internship offers that fit our workstreams.
  • Hours:  Full-time (unlimited) or Part-Time (max. 20 hours per week, not including holidays)
  • Compensation: Unpaid. Reasonable expenses re-paid where invoiced and approved prior
  • Output: Final Presentation to Project Team of internship outcomes
  • Opportunities: Tutorials and/or interviews with 5 major Africa investors
  • Outcome: Top-notch interns will receive endorsement from and/or its project staff and/or their recommendation/s via Project Intern Pods 2010 - 2011
